Dragging Projects into Rhapsody in v10

Andy Lapping Tip

Overview

Are you used to being able to drag .rpy or .rpyx files from Windows explorer into Rhapsody to quickly open a project ? I am - I use it all the time - but in Rhapsody version 10 things have changed a little.

Rhapsody version 10 introduced support for drag and drop through the API. At the moment it is limited to dragging from a web browser (I use it in my Rhapsody Power Pack to drag and drop to create hyperlinks or OSLC links - very convenient!)

BUT that drag and drop functionality has replaced the existing one, so dragging a Rhapsody file onto the model browser no longer opens that project - Rhapsody ignores it (drag and drop for files has not yet been added).

But fret not ! there is a way to use drag and drop to open the project. Instead of dragging the file onto the model browser, drag it onto the diagram editing area - Rhapsody still recognizes that as 'open this project'

Problem solved !
